나무로 · nah-moo-roh

Namuroh is a coined name rooted in the Korean word namu (나무), meaning tree. In Korean, -ro (로) is a particle that can suggest toward, through, or by way of. Taken together, 나무로 carries the implication of something like through the tree or by way of the tree: a path shaped by growth, branching, and connection.

The name evokes the tree as both symbol and structure: rooted yet open, grounded yet always extending outward. It suggests a life of learning that grows over time, puts out new branches, and creates space for others beneath it. In that sense, it holds ideas of growth, inquiry, mentorship, and the spread of knowledge.

For me, Namuroh is also a deliberate nod to my Korean heritage. As a Korean-American, that heritage is a meaningful part of my identity and a source of personal grounding, even as my relationship to the language continues to evolve. The name reflects that connection in a way that feels intentional, subtle, and alive.

Namuroh also speaks to the shape of my work. My current guiding passion is research — especially around cognition, computation, and the mind — but I am also a teacher and mentor. The tree metaphor holds both: deep roots in study, branching ideas, and the passing of knowledge outward to others. It is not only a name for a website, but for a way of being — one shaped by curiosity, learning, teaching, and growth.
